BAD MOVE BY THE PNP
Generation 2000 (G2K) today called on Peoples National Party (PNP) President Portia Simpson-Miller to immediately reconsider the candidacy of PNP member Patrick Roberts for West Central St. Andrew in the upcoming general election.
G2K is of the view that Mr. Roberts’ candidacy represents a major error and a huge step backward for the PNP and the country on a whole.
Patrick Roberts is now before the courts on a gun related charge stemming from the recovery of his licensed firearm from a man who allegedly engaged the police in a shoot-out on January 20. At the time the police said they seized two illegal guns from him, one of which was traced back to Roberts who did not report that his firearm was missing.
G2K reiterated that with the entire nation focused on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ seriousness in bringing an end to garrison politics, this marks a momentous and rare occasion for the PNP to show whether it is serious about the transformation of Jamaica 's political system.
G2K also reiterated its call for the PNP to partner with the Prime Minister in transforming Jamaica ’s political culture. Any dilly dallying on this score will only give credence to a strongly developing view that the PNP has no interest in bringing to an end garrison politics.
