G2K ENDORSES CALL BY JLP LEADER
Generation 2000 (G2K) the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), today endorsed the call made last night at a JLP rally in South Manchester by Prime Minister and JLP Leader Andrew Holness for their to be a national pact amongst Politicians, the news media, and Jamaica’s intelligensia for greater transparency and truth around the campaign period.
Prime Minister Holness made the call against the background of the fact that untruthful, misleading, and inaccurate reporting and commentary can have a significant and unfair effect on voter behaviour, thereby compromising the hard fought gains of our democracy.
G2K pointed out that it is deeply concerned by the flurry of false, erroneous and misleading statements, deliberate or not, from politicians, news media personnel and commentators. G2K noted that, with the political campaign now at a high, greater care must be taken by political functionaries, news media and the intelligentsia to ensure that the facts, the truth and intellectual honesty reigns supreme over all else in public commentary, no matter ones political affiliation.
