HOLNESS IS THE MAN TO TAKE OVER â G2K

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 Generation 2000 (G2K the young professional affiliate of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), revealed the general results of its consultation exercise with members here and overseas regarding the impending departure of Bruce Golding from the posts of Prime Minister of Jamaica and Leader of the JLP.
The primary positions of participants in G2K’s consultation exercise are:
- The work of Prime Minister and Leader of the JLP Bruce Golding is highly valued and must continue under the new Leader/ Prime Minister
- Members are of the view that in the interest of unity and harmony there is to be no contest for the post of Leader of the JLP.
- Andrew Holness is most favoured by G2K members to succeed Bruce Golding as Prime Minister and Leader of the JLP.
- There is a clamour for new and different Generation X transformational leadership. By overwhelming majority, members are of the view that Andrew Holness is sufficiently capable of achieving this task.
With these positions in mind G2K has endorsed the views of its membership and has written to Andrew Holness calling on him to commit to continuing the Golding reform agenda. G2K specifically asked Mr. Holness to develop or fast track the following:
- Measures to reverse the institutionalization of political tribalism and garrisons as manifested in many constituencies across political lines
- Provisions for the impeachment of public officials
- Term limits for the office of Prime Minister
- Further efforts to attain Youth Mainstreaming policies throughout the public sector
- Push to draw on extraordinary Jamaicans here and overseas to join the government in administering the affairs of Jamaica
- Promulgate and mentor Generation X and younger generation leaders into the governance process, and;
- Reforms to protocols regarding a change of government with the aim of allowing newly elected administrations room to navigate for better, direct and more effective governance
