Chairperson, Foreign Affairs
With a Bachelors of Arts degree in Spanish from Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania and Masters of Science in Education from Nova Southeastern University, Rachael McDonald is an innovative educator.
Rachael's love for children and enthusiasm in education have grown in the past decade from hosting and managing summer camps in Jamaica and St. Kitts, teaching Spanish at a private secondary school, to the recent realization of her dream of starting an after school centre which provides one-of-a kind, cutting edge programmes, activities and services to Jamaican children up to age eighteen. In addition, Rachael has recently launched a bilingual preschool programme where the objective is to not only sensitize children to linguistic differences but subsequently cultural ones hence creating more tolerant members of society.
She believes in volunteerism; a member of the UNESCO Communications Sub-Committee she has also chaired G2K’s Foreign Affairs committee. Rachael’s service continues at FoW 15 & 16, a non-profit organization that supports the paediatric wards at the University Hospital of the West Indies. Through that platform, she regularly spearheads fundraising activities for the entity in an attempt to encourage empathy and compassion among the children she teaches. In addition she is a local liason for several international universities overseas which provide Jamaican youth the opportunity to study abroad. She is also a member of the American Teachers of Foreign Languages.
Always appreciating a challenge, she believes that a good educational foundation coupled with a solid grasp of a second language are key ingredients to preparing individuals for life in today's global village.
