Chairperson, Strategy
Robert Nesta Morgan was born Woodhalll Clarendon on November 13, 1981.
He attended the May Pen Primary School and later Garvey Maceo where he received his CXC qualifications. At Garvey Maceo Robert was a member of the debating and school challenge teams. These pursuits betray Robert’s interest in current affairs and intellectual discourse. He was also a prefect, Student Council President and a member of the Key Club chapter at the school.
After graduating from Garvey Maceo in 1999 Robert joined the Clarendon College 2001 sixth form class. Again, he played a central role in school life becoming a member of the debating team, captain of the school’s tourism quiz team, a team which came fourth nationally in the 2000 National Tourism Quiz Competition. Robert also was a prefect in 6A as well as a recipient of the Florida Chapter Past student Association Scholarship for two consecutive years.
In 2001 Robert matriculated to the University of the West Indies where he began reading for a degree in history with emphasis on research. On campus Robert quickly assimilated into campus politics becoming a founding member of the Mona Campus Youth League, the University of the West Indies Chapter of G2K.
Eventually Robert would become president of this organization. As president he spearheaded several initiatives including securing the future of the organization by recruiting several dedicated students as part of his executive including Delano Seiveright who he made his General Secretary. There were also outreach programs including donations to the Windsor Girls home.
One of the main initiatives while Robert was president of the Youth League was the meet the spokesmen series which saw appearances from the likes of James Robertson and Edmund Bartlett.
The youth league also played a vital role in the JLP’s 2002 general elections with Robert staring in a few of the party’s political ads for that campaign.
After leaving university in 2004 Robert decided to enter the teaching profession but politics would continue to tug at him and after a few months as a teacher at his alma mater Clarendon College, he decided to take up a job as personal assistant to then Education Spokesman, now Prime Minister, Hon. Andrew Holness. In the same year he was also deputy general secretary for G2K.
After working with Mr. Holness for one year Robert decided to pursue his other dream that of being a media professional. He began his foray into media with a job at Newstalk 93 FM in 2006 leaving soon after to take up a producer role at CVM where he worked in the newsroom and on Hot 102 as morning producer. After a year and a half at CVM Robert moved to RJR where he was a reporter/producer for RJR and TVJ. His substantive post though was producer of Beyond the Headlines with Dionne Jackson Miller.
During his time at RJR he reported on several stories of national importance including the Trafigura scandal, the global recession and several other issues of international interest.
It was also during his time at RJR that Robert decided to start a new career, that of a publicist. He started to understudy Alison Moss-Solomon who at the time was emerging as one of the best entertainment publicists in Jamaica. Together as a team they changed the entertainment PR game in Jamaica representing the who’s who in Jamaican music and entertainment including: Assassin, CeCile, Cezar, Christopher, Digicel Jamaica, Hezron, Jah Cure, Jr Reid, Jr Pinchers, Lady Saw, Lutan Fyah, Magnum Tonic Wine, NewComm, Prophecy, Rebelmix, Richie Spice, Rootz Underground, Usain Bolt and VP Records.
He also did projects such as Digicel Rising Stars, Magnum Kings & Queens of Dancehall, Bacchanal Carnival, Digicel Premier League, Coca Cola Beijing Olympics and Magnum Follow The Arrow 2008 to name a few.
Now with RJR behind him Robert has his own PR firm as well as a role as Media Manager for the Prime Minister. He continues his interest in politics and media and is willing to further contribute to national discourse and matters of importance.
A labourite who continues to contribute to the development of the party and the country is how Robert views himself. His vision is to see a party that not only wins elections but maintains a well oiled campaign machine throughout its tenure as government.
